Bisham Abbey:

Bisham “Abbey”, just north of Maidenhead, is now owned by the National Sports Council.  The earliest part of the existing building is a preceptory of stone, built by the Knights Templar in the 13th century.  It was later owned by the Montacute and Neville Earls of Salisbury in the 14th and 15th centuries; the Hoby family in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the Vansittart & Vansittart Neale families in the 18th-19th centuries.

The study includes:

  • The armorial glass of the different centuries represented, including the earliest glass that of Katherine Grandison and William Montacute Earl of Salisbury.
  • The built legacy of the Grandison family.
  • Changes in ownership together with major changes to the structure of the house over the centuries.
