Pond during the Restoration

Members of the Civic Society spent many weekends during 1987 restoring North Town Pond.  The project was our entry in that year’s Keep Berkshire Tidy competition and we were awarded a “Highly Commended” certificate.  A mechanical digger was used to remove two to three feet of silt from the water, and the broken down outlet weir was rebuilt.  This area is now fully landscaped.

North Town Moor forms part of the Greenway from Cookham to Bray.  It was messy work and demonstrated that the Civic Society are “doers” with a practical commitment to a better environment, not a talking shop.
